HOW101 was initially incorporated in 2007 after seeing the need of young mothers, girls and boys who were in great need but not adequately supported in Uganda and Kenya. We witnessed committed staff who had the expertise, but not the platform, connections, or time for planning a growing community and future. Seven women put their time, talents and passions to work and became the Core Board of HOW101. As needs arose, so have others who have joined in with their contributions to help! We are proud of our ability to follow and lead with our partners. Together we grow - with understanding that each life (regardless of age, race, status, location) is unique —and will encounter blessings as well as challenges that we celebrate and lament together. Whom God calls, He equips - in His time, in His way. It has been a meaningful adventure that lives on!

MISSION:

HOW101 exists to holistically transform the lives of youth at extreme risk within targeted groups in Uganda and Kenya. We do this through educational sponsorships as well as mentoring, family involvement, healthcare and a network of support for growth. We promote self-sustaining business projects to support the mission and utilize volunteers in the U.S. using their gifts and talents!

VISION:

To see empowered and transformed lives positively impacting their community and beyond through employment, local involvement and by spreading hope. In addition, we see self-sustainment for our projects as well as fulfillment for all who contribute and take part.

VALUES:

We are committed to transparency in our collaborations with local leadership. We believe there is something to be learned from every life - to be seen, accepted and valued, while connecting with others for the greater good. We responsibly and relationally connect people to make a difference in impoverished lives.

STATEMENT OF FAITH:

HOW101 is a community rooted in the Scriptures and led by the Holy Spirit. We desire to be like Jesus and follow his teachings. We believe all people are created equal by God, have value and purpose, and should be treated with respect and dignity.
